What is Aircraft Vertical Speed Indicator BC10-1B?

The vertical speed indicator (VSI), also known as the ascending and descending speed indicator (RCDI) is an instrument that indicates the ascending or descending speed of an aircraft.

VSI uses the aircraft's pitot-static system to determine the vertical speed and plot the results on a conventional needle and circular scale instrument or on a tape on the side of the EADI avionics system.

Two typical VSI indicators are shown below. The first is a normal indicator while on the second the vertical speed is indicated on the scale at the far right of the device.
